Because we need to what science is telling us about Yoga
Table of contents
Welcome to our first Kids Yoga Lab post, listing the 11 Science-based Yoga benefits for adults and kids to motivate you and the children to hop on the mat. Plus, let’s have a look over the benefits that Yoga is absolutely the boss but that Western science still needs to catch up.Â
For whom this post is:
- For the parents out there, this post will show the Yoga benefits of a sharp mind and a healthy body that can definitely help your children.
- Also, the list will help yoga teachers who are looking to improve their marketing materials.
- Finally, will also show child development professionals. that Yoga can be your superpower.
With that said, let’s dive into the study.
The researchers investigated Yoga in relationship to stress response, psychological processes, and neurobiology. They didn’t just study kids’ experiences, but since Yoga can be suitable for everyone – from my grandma to a five-year-old – we must consider them. Plus, there aren’t thousands of studies yet on the benefits of Western-style Kids’ Yoga, so let’s appreciate the ones we do have.Â
Given that, what do we know about the power of Yoga? We know that Pascoe et al. (2017) are jumping with glee! They found out that Yoga is fantastic.Â
Let’s have a look at the benefits:

Exercise Yoga is excellent for…
You might be thinking about other benefits that were not cited. Well, Western science still needs to cover those grounds.
What science has not covered yet…
- Science is behind studying Interoception, which is the capacity to BE in the body, feel and recognise the inner landscape, which is the KEY skill of Yoga.
- They also do not know much about self-regulation, apart from two small studies that gave Yoga a thumbs up.
- Meta-cognition again, no high volume of studies, it is ok; we Yoga teachers know that there is no need to waste the dollars there because meta-cognition is the cornerstone of Yoga.
Finally, communicating why certain benefits are still not proven may be necessary sometimes, so to whoever I am talking to, studying Yoga through Western methodologies needs much time and hard work. With numerous styles and endless elements that affect the results, it is understandable why Yoga is challenging to research. For instance, what would be the outcome if we performed Asanas without relaxation at the end or just without any Asanas? Mixing different elements of Yoga can bring unique benefits, but it also raises questions about the possible outcomes. Common sense is not considered science. Thus, reviews and research studies can guide us in the right direction.
